As we move towards SEYO Athens in July and August, El Sistema Greece is getting in the mood with a host of very special events and guest visits. And, one upcoming event has got the students in Athens especially excited.
In a particular coup for El Sistema Greece, the programme's students will soon be able to enjoy the astonishing privilege of being part of an evening's lineup featuring the acclaimed, multiple Grammy award-winning American mezzo-soprano, Joyce DiDonato. In Greece for a series of perfomances and masterclasses, DiDonato will join El Sistema Greece's resident ensemble, Il pomo d’oro, to treat the students to a very special performance at their open rehearsal on the 10th June.
And, Joyce DiDonato's performance and the open rehearsal will in fact top quite the week for the students. For, while they count down the days to their performance at Athens' SNFCC, the students are already benefitting from the expert attentions of the Maitrise de Radio France team, comprising Music Director Sofi Jeannin and Assistant Conductor Victor Jacob.
Suffice to say, El Sistema Greece are hard at work getting ready and can’t wait for the weekend, but you can already enjoy a sneak preview of Joyce DiDonato and Il pomo d’oro in their performance of Lascia ch’io pianga from DiDonato's new album In War and Peace – Harmony through Music.
