Sistema Europe Youth Orchestra Residency 2018

The 5th SEYO Residency will be hosted by Sistema England from the 17th to 28th August 2018. And, this year, we're grateful to Julian Lloyd Webber and his team for working with us and allowing the residency to take place in the Birmingham Conservatoire's brand new teaching and performance facility.

Yet, the Conservatoire won't be the only stunning location on the agenda. As always, the residency will conclude with a festive weekend of performances and 2018's edition of SEYO will see youth takeovers at London's iconic Southbank Centre site and in Birmingham's majestic Symphony Hall.

Let us know if you want to attend (by 18.02.18!)

Already tempted? If you're thinking about putting together a team to attend, then, as always, we recommend involving young musicians who - besides being expected to return to their national programmes with the enthusiasm and know-how to inspire their peers - either particularly deserve to experience a SEYO camp (due to, for example, their involvement in peer-to-peer teaching) or who would particularly benefit from their attendance.

However, if you and your children are interested in attending, then we would ask you to express your interest by filling out our survey by, at the latest, the 18th February 2018. This will help us both to define the details of this year’s residency as well as to secure the necessary support.

Welcome note

We hope you're looking forward to SEYO 2018 as much as we are and the team at Sistema Europe and Sistema England wish to take this opportunity to welcome you all to England this summer.

We are excited to have our 5th Sistema Europe Youth Orchestra residency in England in 2018 and are grateful for the collaboration with Sistema England and its partners. Coming to England at this challenging time for a sense of European unity is of special significance and we are thrilled to put the emphasis on the young musicians and leaders – our future – with the 2018 theme of Youth Voice.

Dear friends,

It is our privilege and joy to welcome the Sistema Europe Youth Orchestra residency 2018 to England. We have the challenge of following in the giant footsteps of Austria, Turkey and Italy, and, most recently, the incredible residency in Greece. With a core team of European leaders from amongst you and great partner organisations, including the Birmingham Conservatoire and The Nucleo Project, we will build on these strong foundations and bring your students on a musical and social journey that will be equally distinctive and rewarding. I could say more, but this Young Leader can express it better…

Warm wishes and we hope you can join us!
Fiona Cunningham, CEO, Sistema England
My name is Rebekah, a flautist from The Nucleo Project and a Sistema England Young Leader. I’m here to welcome you to SEYO 2018 in England!

For me, SEYO is more than just an annual orchestra camp. Each time I come back with a renewed fire and a goal for where I want to be. SEYO was the first time where I saw such passion for music and the product of commitment. It motivated me to strive to be the best that I could be. SEYO truly shows the power of music to unite amidst all the division that exists in our world.

This year at SEYO 2018, a new generation of young leaders must arise, leaving empowered and ready to galvanise their world through music. We all need to be aware of our mission and play together to reach our common goal. Every single person will hopefully leave feeling like a part of a movement of change. SEYO 2018 can be an unforgettable experience and both adults and young people must join forces to ensure that we create such inspiring performances that will change the face of classical music forever.

On behalf of all the Sistema England Young Leaders, we look forward to connecting with you all soon.
Rebekah, Flautist, The Nucleo Project & Sistema England Young Leader
