DaLaNota is a free and inclusive social music programme that pursues social transformation through the provision of intensive music learning for those at risk of vulnerability or social exclusion. In the course of learning how to play, DaLaNota’s students also learn about social values and the complete spectrum of symphonic instruments, gaining familiarity with choirs, musical language, dance and the orchestra. DaLaNota’s work is also supplemented by a team of psychosocial professionals that serve the students, their families and the community at large, putting on weekly workshops & mediative sessions and working closely with the students parallel to their music education.

Working in the neighborhood of Lavapiés, Madrid since 2015, DaLaNota’s programme has expanded to work with a multicultural group of 72 girls and boys between the ages of seven and 17. All of the children learn symphonic instruments (the violin, the viola, the cello, the double bass, the trumpet and/or the trombone), participate in the choir, dance and receive psychosocial intensive accompaniment for four afternoons a week.

In addition to its daily work, DaLaNota also presents monthly shows and concerts, which help motivate the students and ensure that people know about the good work the project is carrying out.

Since its creation in 2015, the participants of DaLaNota have performed more than 50 shows in all kinds of spaces, auditoriums and theatres. Most of these shows have been within the confines of Madrid and have always had the aim of reaching new audiences through free concerts on the street or through engaging the students as active agents of culture in important venues in the city.
