Sistema Europe's Vision & Mission

Sistema Europe envisages children and young people from every section of European society reaching their full potential. As part of the international Sistema movement, Sistema Europe seeks to assist the continent's Sistema and Sistema-inspired programmes in positively transforming the lives of children, young people and their families in communities from every section of society through the practice of orchestral and ensemble music-making.

Sistema Europe's Programme Principles

  1. Offering orchestral, vocal & other ensemble music activity as an agent of development, inclusion & integration
  2. Providing access for all young people, but particularly for those with the least resources and the greatest need
  3. Fostering stimulating learning environments which enable children to swiftly progress towards excellence, facilitated by their starting young
  4. Ensuring high quality teaching that is immersive, intense and joyful, with peer learning and regular performances
  5. Maintaining regular, high frequency programme work, including multiple sessions/hours of activities per week
  6. Deepening connections to community networks by developing the Venezuelan núcleo model in local contexts

About the Programme Principles

  • These principles seek to articulate what Sistema Europe considers to be the most important elements of El Sistema-inspired work for those interested in spreading it through membership of the Sistema Europe Association and Network.
  • As a statement of principles, these are important descriptions of agreed aspiration and intent for Sistema Europe Association and Network members. They are however subject to continuous refinement and development and are not a mandatory requirement for membership of either the association or the network.
  • Coming from cultures and social systems often very different to Venezuela, Sistema Europe Association and Network members will interpret these programme principles in ways that reflect their own culture and society, as well as their connection to Venezuela's El Sistema and the international Sistema movement.
