El Sistema Sweden consists of 24 regional centres, a teacher training academy, an online learning platform and an orchestra for orphaned refugees.

The association has grown rapidly in recent years, having only been inititated in 2010. On the initiative of Gustavo Dudamel, former Chief Conductor of the Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra and Head of the Hammarkullen Culture School, El Sistema initially emerged on small scale before then experiencing a sudden growth burst.

At the start of 2017, El Sistema was working in cooperation with 18 professional orchestras and choirs to teach 9,000 children in 33 municipalities throughout the country.

Musicologists and academics keep a close eye on El Sistema Sweden’s work and have been a constant factor in the programme’s desire to improve. Sweden and Venezuela have also retained a close relationship in respect to the artistic development of El Sistema Sweden' and an exchange programme is maintained between students in Caracas and Gothenburg.
