Sistema was introduced to Italy by Claudio Abbado in 2010. In Lombardy, the network's collaborative efforts and interventions are deeply rooted in the socio-cultural context of Milan and its surrounding area. However, Sistema in Lombardy also works constantly to reach out to new contacts outwith the region and is engaged with additional collaborators in the rest of Italy as well as in other European countries. Sistema in Lombardy is led by the non-profit organisation SONG onlus and provides a collective musical education on the basis of Sistema principles. It currently runs 11 nucleos, which together reach 1,000 children and their families.
