Members of the Sistema Europe Board have had a recent online article about Bruno Campo brought to their attention. This article contains shocking and serious reports of rape, sexual abuse and other abuses of power by Bruno Campo during his time working in Guatemala. Sistema Europe has not yet been able to independently verify the legitimacy of this online article.

Bruno Campo co-founded the Sistema Europe Youth Orchestra (SEYO) in 2013 and was the co-artistic director of SEYO between 2013 and 2017. However, as Sistema Europe’s processes subsequently revealed an area of concern, he has not been involved in Sistema Europe projects in any capacity since then.

A number of Sistema Europe’s network programmes have also worked with Bruno Campo and, in the light of the extreme severity of the current allegations, the Board has strongly advised them to take note of and carefully consider the article. Sistema Europe’s authority in this matter is purely advisory, as network programmes are completely independent entities and must continue to exercise their own decision-making in this matter.

The Board of Sistema Europe takes all issues related to sexual and other abuse with the greatest seriousness and strongly condemns any such behaviour. The Board extends its fullest sympathies to all individuals who may have been victims of abuse and praises the courage of individuals who come forward to share experiences of such abuse.

Sistema Europe recognises and advocates the need for all projects, especially when working with young people, to examine their safeguarding policies and to ensure that they are sufficiently robust. The Board has put itself at the disposal of its network programmes should they wish to discuss any matters arising from these allegations and it will continue to offer its assistance as this situation develops.
