SEYO Milano, 2015

The third SEYO summer camp was organised by Sistema in Lombardia (supported by the Fondazione Cariplo) in connection with Comitato per il Sistema in Italia Onlus and took place in Milan.

Musicians from Venezuela & Europe

From the 21st-30th August 2015, over 200 young musicians from 27 European countries came together at the University of Milano-Bicocca. Ably supported by 30 teachers and four music directors, the young instrumentalists practised together in an intense rehearsal period, culminating in two extraordinary concerts.

Performing with the Sinfónica Juvenil de Caracas at the Teatro alla Scala on their penultimate evening, SEYO then finished off the summer camp in style with a grand finale performance in the Teatro degli Arcimboldi – Milan’s largest concert venue!

A symphonic encounter of styles

The musical programmes on these two evenings reflected the encounter of different traditions found in SEYO. On both evenings, an Italian repertoire announced SEYO to their audiences, before they moved on to key symphonic works, such as Tchaikovsky’s Marche Slave op. 31, Shostakovich’s Festive Ouverture op. 96 and Sibelius’s Andante Festivo.

Of course, there was also plenty of space left for the orchestra to play South American rhythms and melodies and a number of particularly lively compositions specially chosen for the Sistema environment, ensuring plenty of atmosphere and a sensational display of energy in sound and rhythm.

Sistema Europe thanks it partners for SEYO 2015. The main partners for this summer camp were the Hilti Foundation, along with Fondazione I Pomeriggi Musicali and Università Statale Milano-Bicocca in cooperation with CIDIS. Nestlé kindly provided water and snacks to the musicians and the Monzino Foundation helped with instrument maintenance. The summer camp was also fortunate enough to benefit from grants from the Regione Lombardia and the Fondazione Pasquinelli.
